Have browse and there may be something to take away from that "motorsport" solution. I don't think the OEM early or late towers are sufficiently different in that respect though.Īnyway, I've just pulled this lot out of the Motorsport kit p0rn thread. Also the lateral pivot wobble at the tower is conspicuously replaced on a VWM version, complete with bearings. The plastic connectors will be an issue at both ends of the cables. Also somehow I never noticed the stock mk4 o2j had the two holes in. The early corrado gearshifter isn't good, whereas the Mk4 shifter assembly is better, providing far more positive feel. The transmission is complete and looks amazing Cant wait to see it bolted up to the vr5. It is also slightly larger than a 12x1.5mm die, so threading it may be quite hard. All the others are mk4 (cables, tower, etc). Part numbers: 6n0 711 061 a houseing 6n0 711 090 a base plate 6n0 711 611 c selector arm Those are the only three Polo parts. The 02J shifter shaft is not threaded like the Corrado/other VWs. The three parts allow you to mount the mk4 02J shifter mechanism in a housing which bolts in to the Corrado. It is fine, as a complete unit of VWM parts, but this has no direct translation to the road versions. 02J style shift knob, aftermarket knob which attaches via set screws, or some way to thread the 02J shifter shaft to 12x1.5mm. It then bolts in to the Mk3 chassis without any modifications There's a few sellers who have the shift box, though you still need an 02J shifter to get the guts. NLSs mounts work on either tranny in an mk1. BTW I found out you can get a Polo shift box (for the shifter itself) and swap all the 02J parts in to it. The tower and shifter weight and all are different but you can put the 02a stuff on an 02j and vice versa. I've been grazing over this thread, but have held off from providing the "motorsport" solution, as we tend to be prone to doing around these parts!īut just to throw this into the mix, I have an 02A tower on my Mk1 Golf, with ball-ended cable fittings, and a VW Motorsport shifter. o2j is stronger but the case is essentially the same.
